Most barbarians do not worship the gods of the civilized peoples, but instead venerate the Forest Gods—a vast pantheon of nature spirits and natural forces that they experience every day of their lives. Druids (or shamans) are the chief priests and spir- it-talkers of the barbarian peoples, and the tribes’ guardians of magic. In many ways, they are the cler- ics of the barbarians, although no druid commands the wealth or authority of an important priest in one of the city-states; druids advise and guide, they do not command.

Many druids learn the Urgan language, which is dimly understood by some of the more intelligent beasts. Druids in Thule have no secret language or organization of their own—druids of different tribes have little interaction with each other.
